Official italki.com blog: Site Redesign – Focusing on Languages

  • Hemaseh · 4 months ago
    Thanks for changes .
but the font of the menu which includes : Friends / inbox/ profile...... is white and almost invisible.
please change the font color if possible.
    Thanx

We think that should be a CSS cache issue. If you can force a reload of the page, you should be able to see the new layout.

The language setting on the left side is always defaulting on a language I am not even learning... Overall I preferred the older version it was much neater looking...
  • italki · 4 months ago
If you're still running into this problem about defaulting on other languages, please let us know. In general, the default will change if you change what type of language resources / partners / teaches you're searching for. In general, the default should be the language that you're learning (based on your profile). Let us know if you continue to run into this.

The site redesign looks like a little strange. And it's not so easy to use.
  • italki · 4 months ago
Give it a try, and let us know if you still feel this way...
  • Stephen Jones · 4 months ago
I also preferred the older look. I can't understand why there is a need to change things that already work fine. Also, it's a pity we can not offer a video option in our profile page.
  • italki · 4 months ago
Hi Stephen --- we'll look into the video option on the profile page. We'll be modifying that as well in the coming weeks.
We thought there were a lot of functions that were being obscured in the previous version. Try using the new layout, and let us know if you still think it is worse than before. Thanks for the feedback.

Thank you very much for the changes, the site became more comfortable and more understandable. But this is a little discomfort — I cannot see that somebody has added me as a friend, if I am not at the main page at the moment.

Hey can u pls also look the funtionality of this site like if user not online from last some minutes but in laguaues partner it show me online and when u click on it then u find it users just offline before some times(or some minutes) this is totally not fare....

When user sigg out out or user session expire just show offline (not show online on laguaues partner)

And oner more points calcualtion of time like last login is also not correct..

italki is getting better day by day but i advise to be made one thing too, i think there should be a place to find friends by their e-mail address. i know we can find them with the e-mail but if its in ur friend list, or if u are in its friend list. it should be general of the site, not in the friend list.
we are able to find the friend by writing the name around the general side of italki, but we want to find them by writing e-mail adress without add to list.
i hope you can do something to fix it.

    best regards

I can't seem to get the chat feature to connect to the server. I have tried it in Firefox and Chrome, both very popular browsers, on Windows and Linux, on different machines and networks. It seems like there's definitely something wrong here.
  • italkiToffler · 4 months ago
Troy, Connecting to the chat server is going very slowly. But if you're still having problems and its not connecting at all, please email: feedback (at) italki (dot) com for help troubleshooting the Chat problem.

The changes was quiet good, however the blackboard and the Q&A were mix together, hope you could re-organized the blackboard part and the Q&A part. Thanks
  • italkiToffler · 4 months ago
RnR, Eventually we plan to make your homepage even more of an aggregator of your italki activity, like a lifestream of all your italki actions--that's why the Blackboard and Q&A have been integrated, because we've started moving in that direction. If you think they should be separated, please explain why.

Personally ... I like the older version better , it was easier to see which one of your language partners were online , also it was easier to navigate through the site , although some of the changes are more convenient , I think overall the older version was a little more suitable , now if you could figure out a way to combine the two , I think it would make the site much less complicated .

    Thanks , Mike J.
  • italkiToffler · 4 months ago
Mike, In order to see which of your language partners are online, you only need to click "Friends" on the top pink menu and the ones listed at the top, with the green light next to them are online.

I think over time you'll get more comfortable with the new site design and find that it helps to focus on the goal of the site: learning foreign languages. The menu change is intended to direct you to what you language you're trying to learn and the resources available on italki to help you learn it.

italki doesn't support all e-mail providers. it doesn't send confirmation emails to some sites, 4 examlpe www.inbox.com
  • italki · 4 months ago
Hi Pritamlama -- we've been trying to deal with this issue. Some countries and email providers seem to have problems with receiving italki emails. We're trying to resolve this issue. The only other suggestion we have is to sign up with another free email provider (like gmail, yahoo, etc.).

    -Regarding to this concern

RnR, Eventually we plan to make your homepage even more of an aggregator of your italki activity, like a lifestream of all your italki actions--that's why the Blackboard and Q&A have been integrated, because we've started moving in that direction. If you think they should be separated, please explain why.

-in my opinion it would be more comfortable to separate them to be more organized and easily to be read all comment board in it's own stream as of the Q&A. Thanks for replying to this concern.
